Disaster Recovery Center Opens In Decatur In-Person Help For Individuals In The Recovery Process

JACKSON, Miss- A new Disaster Recovery Center opened in Decatur (Newton County), federal and state officials announced today.

Disaster victims are urged to register for assistance before visiting the center by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech- or hearing- impaired. Those who have questions or who wish to follow up on their registrations may visit the center to meet with recovery specialists in person.

The new Disaster Recovery Center is located in Newton County at:

Decatur, MS

The DRC will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday until further notice.

Representatives of state, federal and voluntary agencies will be on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. Officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be available to discuss disaster loans for homeowners, renters, and businesses of all sizes. Written materials about various assistance programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003
