FEMA And State Will Open Two Disaster Recovery Centers For Ice Storm Assistance On Saturday, May 31

Syracuse, NY -- New York State officials and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have established two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) to assist individuals affected by the April 3-5 ice storm. The centers will open on Saturday, May 31st, in Monroe and Oswego counties.

Homeowners, renters, and business owners in Cayuga, Monroe, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Oswego, Seneca and Wayne counties need to apply by phone first, calling the FEMA toll-free Teleregistration/Helpline, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). For questions about the status of your application and other disaster assistance programs, call the Helpline. Individuals can also visit the nearest DRC and meet with recovery specialists face-to-face. Hearing and/or speech impaired individuals can call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY). Both numbers are open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week.

The centers will be open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Emergency Management Office will be available to answer questions and provide recovery information, and written material about the different assistance programs available for individuals and business owners.

The disaster programs include temporary housing, other disaster-related assistance for necessary expenses and serious needs, and low-interest disaster loans from the Small Business Administration. This is also an opportunity for homeowners to get information about mitigation.

*Please note that one mobile DRC will travel to different areas to accommodate individuals who are unable to reach the stationary centers. This mobile center will begin operations next week.
