Nashville, TN -- Two mobile Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will set up in Madison County on May 28 and 29 to extend outreach efforts to residents who suffered losses in the devastating storms earlier in the month. Since the disaster began, 1,540 individuals have visited six statewide DRCs for information and assistance, nearly 1,000 from Madison County alone.

The mobile centers, staffed by Tennessee (TEMA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recovery specialists and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan officers, have telecommunication and network computer links to assist registrants and to provide updated information on applications already filed. Locations have been chosen to be convenient to the largest possible number of residents.

Schedule and Locations (Both centers open 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.)

Wednesday, May 28 - Thursday, May 29
Returning Saturday, May 31

1945 Denmark-Jackson Road, Denmark
(Denmark Elementary School)

Wednesday, May 28 - Until further notice
(FEMA Mobile Communications Ctr.)

1400 Block of East Chester, Jackson
(East Jackson Police Command Post)

The DRCs will provide information on available programs, including housing assistance, individual and household grants, SBA low-interest loan applications, business loans, mitigation, and other disaster-related programs to help cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.

The mobile center located in the city of Jackson will be a new arrival on the disaster scene, a special FEMA Mobile Communications Center. Obtained as cost-free surplus from another federal agency, the bus is equipped with eight work stations, laptop computers, satellite TV, satellite telephone communications, and access to the National Emergency Management Information System (NEMIS).

Before visiting any DRC, applicants should first register for assistance by calling toll-free 800-621-FEMA (3362). Individuals with speech or hearing impairments who use special keyboard equipment (TDD) should call 800-462-7585. The lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, until further notice.

Applicants are reminded to bring their FEMA registration number and social security number when visiting any disaster center. Those who have already registered for federal-state disaster assistance are not required to visit a DRC, but are invited to do so for disaster-related information including preventive measures to reduce future flood risk.

In addition to the two mobile centers, Madison County residents are served by a fixed-site DRC in Jackson at 1668 N. Parkway that operates from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Two other fixed DRCs are located in Chattanooga and Murfreesboro, and four mobile centers operate throughout Tennessee.
