Charleston, WV -- Nearly $4.5 million in Individual Assistance has been approved for West Virginians as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and West Virginia Office of Emergency Services officials continue response and recovery efforts for those affected by the severe winter storms of Feb. 16.
Those who have registered and still have questions about available programs or the status of their application should call FEMA's Helpline, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY/TDD) 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing-impaired. The line is open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The total of $4,488,528 has been approved for the Individuals and Households Program (IHP) that includes Housing Assistance (HA) and Other Needs Assistance (ONA). HA may include lodging expense reimbursement, repair assistance and temporary rental assistance. ONA may include medical, dental and funeral expenses; furniture, clothing and some appliances; vehicle costs (up to state limits); and other eligible expenses.
County breakdown of IHP awards follows: Braxton, $31,649;Cabell, $346,970; Calhoun, $93,626; Fayette, $69,717; Greenbrier, $36,964; Harrison, $24,332; Jackson, $182,550; Kanawha, $370,514; Lewis, $12,332; Lincoln, $369,620; Logan, $93,180; Mason, $147,052; McDowell, $374,378; Mercer, $226,934; Mingo, $917,882; Monroe, $31,657; Nicholas, $91,643; Putnam, $38,550; Raleigh, $296,387; Roane, $95,528; Upshur, $9,491; Wayne, $324,013; Webster, $10,628; and Wyoming, $292,925.
SBA has approved $1,012,000 for 90 home and business loans.
Financial assistance in the amount of $5,926,956 has been obligated to repair or replace disaster-damaged public facilities through FEMA's Public Assistance program. The funds represent initial payments to the 547 units of government that have applied for assistance.
