Oklahoma City, OK -- With the debris cleanup well underway, many residents have questions regarding what they may leave at the curb for debris collection.
Disaster-related debris will be eligible for pickup and disposal by the county/municipality if the resident places the following types of debris within 15 feet of the curb (within the right-of-way):
- Storm generated material detached, by the storm, from the structure and laying on the ground.
- Yard waste including tree branches, bushes, yard furniture, fences, broken lumber, individual shingles, individual bricks, etc.
- Household goods including rugs, furniture, small appliances, mattresses, etc.
- Appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers, and dryers.
Under no circumstances will reconstruction debris or demolition debris created by the property owner or the private contractor be pushed to the curb. The property owner, insurance company or contractor is responsible for removing and transporting all demolition and/or reconstruction debris to a local landfill.
- Reconstruction debris includes any construction material that must be removed from the damaged structure (shingles, portions of roofs, etc.) to bring it back to pre-disaster function.
- Demolition debris includes construction material created by the physical deconstruction of the remaining portions of a disaster-damaged structure (walls, roof, flooring, slabs, outbuildings, etc.) in preparation for the construction of a new building.
