Disaster Aid Available for Fargo Residents Following Weekend Storm

BISMARCK, N.D. -- Residents in Fargo and the surrounding area who suffered damage as a result of this past weekends severe storm still have the opportunity to register for disaster assistance. Individuals can register for assistance by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585). Residents should also file claims with their insurance company since federal assistance cannot duplicate insurance benefits.
"There may be help from FEMA in the form of disaster rental assistance for those individuals who had their apartments and homes destroyed over the weekend," said Federal Coordinating Officer Lesli A. Rucker. "We understand there are several families who had to leave their homes because of the damage and we want them to know that there is help available to them."
Disaster assistance may also be available to families and individuals who suffered damages but are able to remain in their homes. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) may also provide low-interest disaster loans to individuals and businesses that suffered damages.
FEMA and the State will also be working with county and city officials to determine what assistance may be provided to help with any damaged infrastructure.
To date, more than 4,000 North Dakota residents have registered for disaster assistance and more than $3.1 million has been issued to help individuals recover from the various storms that have affected the state this spring and summer.
