Iowa Residents Still Fighting Flooding

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Flooding continues to plague Iowa residents in Buchanan County along low-lying areas as rivers there rise above flood stage. The American Red Cross continues to operate one shelter in the area.
Water bottles and water buffaloes are being distributed in Floyd, Buchanan and Black Hawk counties. The Red Cross distributed cleanup kits in Floyd, Butler, Chickasaw, Black Hawk, Benton and Linn counties. Numerous streets are closed due to flooding and state police are handling traffic control at these locations. Federal Individual Assistance is available to residents of Black Hawk, Butler, Jones and Woodbury. The state is reviewing other affected counties for addition to the federal declaration.
FEMA disaster officials are operating out of a satellite Disaster Field Office in Cedar Rapids until the main DFO in Des Moines is fully operational. FEMA Community Relations personnel have begun to canvass affected area and have distributed flyers on the assistance process in the designated counties. Officials are identifying locations for Disaster Recovery Centers.
