New York Disaster Assistance Tops $61 Million

ALBANY, N.Y. -- More than $61 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) individual assistance (IA), U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans, and FEMA public assistance (PA) funding has been approved for 14 New York counties that sustained damage during the April 14 - 18 nor'easter.

Seven counties were declared for individual assistance (IA), while 13 counties were declared for public assistance (PA). The IA counties are Albany, Dutchess, Orange, Richmond (Borough of Staten Island), Rockland, Ulster, and Westchester. The PA counties are Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Essex, Greene, Montgomery, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Schoharie, Suffolk, Ulster, and Westchester.

The IA program provides disaster grants, while the SBA offers low-interest loans for homeowners, renters, and business owners. The PA program reimburses eligible state agencies, municipalities, and certain private non-profit organizations for the cost of emergency protective measures and debris removal, and for repairs to damaged infrastructure.
