ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) tele-registration hours have changed to Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice.

Homeowners, renters and business owners in declared counties who suffered loss or damage from the April 2-4 severe storms and floods are urged to register for federal and state assistance at the toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). For those who may have a hearing or speech impairment, call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585.

Applicants also may register on line, during the weekends, or anytime, at www.fema.gov.

The presidential declaration of April 19 made New York residents and businesses in Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Orange, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Schoharie, Sullivan, Tioga and Ulster counties eligible for individual disaster assistance programs.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
