HARRISBURG, Pa. -- State and federal officials announced a "roving" mitigation specialist will visit several building supply stores to explain mitigation techniques that can lessen damage to homes, businesses and property in the event of future flooding. In addition, specialists working in teams will spend several days at Home Depot, Lowes and Dirlam Brothers Lumber Co stores. The mitigation outreach began at Home Depot stores in April.

The teams will also supply information on preventing mold, the National Flood Insurance Program, mitigation techniques such as retrofitting and elevation and will answer other disaster-related questions. The following is a schedule of store dates, locations and hours:

Through Friday, May 6

Teams available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily with the exception of Tuesday when specialists will not be on site. Sunday hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday hours are 2 p.m.to 8 p.m.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA ) encourage members of the public to drop by and pick up informative materials and speak with mitigation experts about their homes and businesses.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
