Release Number: R1-07-034b

BOSTON - FEMA, the National Weather Service and the six New England states are monitoring the progress of Hurricane Noel. Currently off the Mid-Atlantic Coast, the storm is headed north and will begin to impact New England by early Saturday.

In response to this event, FEMA is activating its Regional Response Coordination Center (RRCC) at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Though the storm is not expected to have a widespread or severe impact, wind and flood advisories are expected for coastal regions, with the heaviest impact expected for Cape Cod and the Islands.

FEMA, working with state and local officials, will continue to monitor the storm's progress throughout the weekend.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
