Release Number: HQ-00-CG04
SANTA FE, N.M. -- The Cerro Grande Fire Assistance Customer Service Centers assisted 776 visitors in the first 10 days of operation. The centers opened on Monday, Aug. 28.
The centers, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), are open six days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The centers will be closed on Sundays, beginning Sept. 10.
Individuals with losses resulting from the fire can visit the Customer Service Centers to discuss questions about the process with a Customer Service Representative.
The Customer Service Representative will provide information on the process to help potential claimants decide whether to file a claim under the Cerro Grande Fire Assistance Act, provide them with a Notice of Loss form, help them fill out the form and walk them through the entire compensation process. If individuals then choose to file a Notice of Loss, a Claims Reviewer will work with them on the claim process. Translators will be made available.
More than 840 Notice of Loss forms were filed in the first 10 days in person and by mail. To file a Notice of Loss, an individual must file by mail or file in person, but individuals can also get assistance on how to fill out the Notice of Loss form by calling the Cerro Grande Fire Assistance Line at 1-888-748-1853.
