CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- Within three days after the disaster declaration of November 21 FEMA distributed funds to residents suffering losses resulting from the storms, flooding and landslides.

As soon as applications were received at the FEMA teleregistration number, inspectors went out to assess damages. Their reports triggered some checks in just three days. “We are pleased when funds reach the hands of applicants so quickly," said Federal Coordinating Officer Michael Bolch. "The rains had a devastating effect on West Virginia residents."

To date $625,000 has been approved for disbursement primarily for emergency home repairs.

Following additional assessments new counties may be declared eligible. "If you have suffered losses as a result of the severe storms, flooding and landslides that began on November 11, don't hesitate to call to determine whether or not you can get assistance," said State Coordinating Officer Steve Kappa.
