Comanche Peak Exercise

DENTON, Texas -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will evaluate off-site activities around the Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station (CPSES) during a nuclear power plant exercise on Wednesday, November 19. This exercise will test how well CPSES and the state and local governments can protect people who live near the nuclear power plant.

FEMA will present preliminary findings of the off-site exercise in a public meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, at the Hood County Courthouse Annex, 200 N. Gordon Street in Granbury. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will use FEMA's report in licensing decisions.

Purpose: Graded, Biennial Radiological Emergency Preparedness Exercise

Participants:

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
