Charleston, WV -- Federal and state officials announced the closing this week of the Kanawha County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). The center will close at the end of the business day on Friday, Aug. 15, 2003.

The Kanawha County DRC is located at:

Charleston
Center Hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Anyone with questions or who would like to check on the status of his or her application in person should do so by 7 p.m. on the closing date. Residents who still have questions after the center closes may call the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The FEMA Helpline number is 1-800-621-3362 or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Helpline representatives will be able to give the same information provided by officials at the recovery center.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
