FEMA Donating Surplus Computers To Russellville ISD Valued At $240,758

Little Rock, AR -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in compliance with an executive order permitting the donation of surplus federal equipment to educational institutions, today donated 91 computers valued at $188,258, which is the first installment of a total of 112 computers valued at $240,758, to the Russellville Independent School District.
Bob Drew, Accountable Property Officer for FEMA, turned the computers over to Thomas Rice, Russellville School District Information Systems Manager, at the FEMA disaster field office in Little Rock today. "These computers no longer have the capability that we need for disaster use, but they will work fine for the students at Russellville. Our needs are changing and to keep abreast of the times, we are updating our equipment in order to better serve the public," said Drew.
The program of making useful surplus federal equipment available to schools is an agency wide program. "We are pleased that this equipment will be used by Arkansas students and excited that FEMA can play a part in technology education especially in light of the strong emphasis from the White House concerning education," said Federal Coordinating Officer Joe D. Bray.
"We appreciate the generosity of FEMA in making this donation to the Russellville School District. We recognize the good work that FEMA has done in Arkansas and know that the equipment will be used for years to come by our students," commented Danny Taylor, Russellville School District Superintendent.
