Washington, DC -- Setti D. Warren, a native of New England, has been appointed head of Region I for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA's Region I is headquartered in Boston, Mass., and is responsible for Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

As regional director, Warren will be responsible for implementing disaster response and recovery activities and overseeing FEMA's prevention and preparedness activities, including Project Impact: Building Disaster Resistant Communities. "We are pleased to welcome Mr. Warren to FEMA," said FEMA Director James L. Witt. "He brings policy, strategy and communication skills to this key position in a critical area of the country. The states in Region 1 have suffered through floods, hurricanes and severe storms in recent years and strong leadership is necessary to promote FEMA's prevention message and Project Impact."

Before accepting his new position, Warren served as a White House official in the Office of Cabinet Affairs and has worked in the White House since 1996. Previously he was a consultant in Boston, where he designed and implemented job training programs for low-income adults. He holds a bachelor's degree from Boston College. Warren was the founding member and mentor/coach of The 1000 Black Men of Massachusetts program that assists inner city black males.

"I have worked with Director Witt and his staff on many occasions during my time at the White House and am honored to be joining an agency as well regarded as FEMA," Warren said. "I look forward to working hard to prevent and mitigate disasters that affect the people and property of Region I."
