FEMA individual assistance for Georgia Hurricane Ivan has reached nearly $3 million: FEMA has approved grants totaling $2,287,931 for housing assistance and $711,237 for other-needs assistance for a combined total of $2,999,168.
A total of 2,316 individuals have registered for Hurricane Ivan disaster assistance.
FEMA inspectors have completed 1,551 inspections of damaged homes.
The U.S. Small Business Administration has issued 1,802 low-interest loan applications (1,490 to homeowners and renters, 312 to businesses), and approved $1,601,400 in low-interest loans to homeowners, renters, and businesses.
People who have suffered damage to their home, apartment, or business property in the declared counties of Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dade, Dawson, DeKalb, Early, Forsyth, Franklin, Fulton, Gilmer, Madison, Miller, Pickens Rabun, Towns, Union, and White must apply for assistance no later than November 17. They can do so by calling the toll-free registration number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for those with hearing and speech impairments. The toll-free telephone numbers are available from 6 a.m. to midnight, Eastern Standard Time, seven days a week. Individuals also can apply and find valuable recovery information on the agency's website at http://www.fema.gov.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
