Little Rock, AR -- The following is a summary of ongoing response and recovery efforts as of the close of business, Thursday, January 18, 2001:

FEMA has received 24,852 individual applications for disaster assistance.
- FEMA has approved more than $2 million in disaster housing assistance to 2,411 residents. Many of the residents received help from the home repair program. The program provides grants to homeowners for essential repairs, including repairs to heating, electrical and plumbing. Other homeowners and renters received rental assistance to enable them to rent alternate accommodations.
- State disaster relief officials have approved payment of 274 checks totaling $255,616 to help people cover the costs of disaster-related necessities, including medical, dental and transportation not covered by insurance, or other federal and state programs. This program is funded 75 percent by FEMA and 25 percent by the state.
- The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved loans for homeowners, renters and businesses totaling $151,900.
- A total of 60 counties are eligible for help to individuals and families: Arkansas, Baxter, Benton, Bradley, Calhoun, Clark, Cleveland, Columbia, Conway, Crawford, Crittenden, Cross, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Faulkner, Franklin, Garland, Grant, Hot Spring, Hempstead, Howard, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Lafayette, Lee, Lincoln, Little River, Logan, Lonoke, Madison, Miller, Mississippi, Monroe, Montgomery, Nevada, Newton, Ouachita, Perry, Pike, Poinsett, Polk, Pope, Prairie, Pulaski, St. Francis, Saline, Scott, Searcy, Sebastian, Sevier, Union, Van Buren, Washington, White, Woodruff and Yell.
- Local governments in 61 Arkansas counties are eligible for funding of emergency protective measures, debris removal and repair or replacement of public facilities such as roads, bridges, buildings and utilities. These counties are: Arkansas, Benton, Bradley, Calhoun, Clark, Cleveland, Columbia, Conway, Crawford, Crittenden, Cross, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Faulkner, Franklin, Fulton, Garland, Grant, Hot Spring, Hempstead, Howard, Izard, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Lafayette, Lee, Lincoln, Little River, Logan, Lonoke, Madison, Marion, Miller, Mississippi, Monroe, Montgomery, Nevada, Newton, Ouachita, Perry, Pike, Poinsett, Polk, Pope, Prairie, Pulaski, St. Francis, Saline, Scott, Searcy, Sebastian, Sevier, Stone, Union, Van Buren, Washington, White, Woodruff and Yell.
- Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) continue to be open in nine of the declared counties. DRCs provide an opportunity for ice storm victims to visit face-to-face with representatives of FEMA and the SBA. Arkansans from any of the eligible counties can visit any of the DRCs.
