Little Rock, AR -- More than $8 million in disaster assistance has been obligated to Arkansas counties and communities affected by the December ice storms. The money serves as the first installment of federal aid.

The assistance is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance Program's Immediate Needs Funding (INF), distributed through the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM). These funds are designed to get immediate financial help to communities that are covered under a Presidential disaster declaration. Through the INF, counties and communities that show a need may be eligible to receive up to 50 percent of the federal share of the total damage assessment for debris removal and emergency protective measures.

FEMA and ADEM continue to receive and review requests for assistance from Arkansas counties and communities affected by the December ice storms.
