Oklahoma Counties Available for Additional Funds to Local Governments and Tribal Nations

Oklahoma City, OK -- Thirty--nine Oklahoma counties will now be eligible for the full complement of federal assistance to eligible local and state governments, tribal nations and certain private non--profit organizations. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides funds for both emergency assistance and permanent work needed to repair, restore and replace public property damaged in the wake of the winter storms that began Christmas Day.

Categories of work include:

The federal share of assistance is 75 percent of the eligible costs. The remaining costs are covered by the state.

On Jan. 5, 2001, President Clinton made federal funds available to eligible state, tribal and local governments as well as certain private non--profit organizations in 39 Oklahoma counties for assistance with debris removal and emergency protective measures and essential utility restoration.
