NCRR's Division for Clinical Research Resources provides funding to biomedical research institutions to establish and maintain specialized clinical research facilities and clinical-grade biomaterials that enable clinical and patient-oriented research.

NCRR's Division of Comparative Medicine helps meet the needs of biomedical researchers for high-quality, disease-free animals and specialized animal research facilities.

NCRR's Division of Research Infrastructure supports programs to enhance the competitiveness of investigators in underserved states and institutions and also provides funding to build, expand, remodel, or renovate research facilities throughout the nation.

NCRR's Division of Biomedical Technology supports research to develop innovative technologies and helps make them accessible to the biomedical research community.

NCRR's Science Education Partnership Awards are designed to improve life science literacy throughout the nation.

Specific Funding Opportunities for Individuals

In addition to reviewing the brief descriptions that appear below of the various types of grants, potential applicants should consult the relevant Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) originally published in the NIH Guide, the relevant NCRR Division's Program Guidelines, and the NIH instructions for preparation of a paper PHS398 applicationexternal link, opens in new window (or electronic SF424 applicationexternal link, opens in new window in the near future). Applications should be relevant to a specific Division's programs. Examples of already funded training grants to institutions are listed in each Division's Resource Directory. Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (F31)

Provides predoctoral students with supervised research training in specified health and health-related areas leading toward the research degree. Stipends are provided according to the National Research Service Awards (NRSA) schedule.

Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32)

Provides postdoctoral research training to individuals to broaden their scientific background and potential for research in specified health areas. Stipends are provided according to the National Research Service Awards (NRSA) schedule.

Special Emphasis Research Career Award (SERCA) in Pathology and Comparative Medicine (K01)

Supports graduate veterinarians with experience in laboratory animal sciences to become independent biomedical investigators in research that is related to comparative medicine.

Midcareer Investigator Award in Mouse Pathobiology Research (K26)

Supports established pathobiologists to allow them protected time to devote to mouse pathobiology research and to mentor new investigators.

NIH Pathway to Independence (PI) Award (K99/R00)

Provides opportunities for PostDoctoral scientists to receive both mentored and independent research support from the same award. Potential K99/R00 applicants should consult with the relevant Division's staff before applying for this grant. READ MOREexternal link, opens in new window
