RSS News Feeds

Current feeds offered by NIEHS

Also available - Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) Feeds (http://www.ehponline.org/docs/admin/newsfeeds.html).

What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. This provides you with a quick and easy way to keep current with a variety of information from Web sites. Instead of you visiting W eb sites to see what is new, you can have web content delivered directly to you. This content is called a "feed", also called RSS Feed, web feed, RSS stream, or RSS channel. When you see this symbol on an NIEHS web page RSS Feed Icon there is an RSS feed available.

RSS is written in the Internet coding language known as XML (eXtensible Markup Language). NIEHS currently uses the RSS 2.0 format. To review this format, see the RSS 2.0 Specifications (http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss) Exit NIEHS.

What is an RSS Reader and how do I get one?

An RSS reader, or aggregator, is a small software program that collects and displays RSS feeds. This tool lets you subscribe to any feeds you want, checks automatically to see when they're updated, and then displays the updates for you as they arrive. An RSS reader can be used through a browser or a stand-alone program.

Browser-based news readers allow you to read your RSS feeds from any computer. Some browsers, such as Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/livebookmarks) Exit NIEHS and Safari (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/safari/) Exit NIEHS, have built-in support for feeds. You can also subscribe to on-line readers, such as Bloglines (http://www.bloglines.com/) Exit NIEHS or Google Reader (https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?nui=1&service=reader&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Freader%2F) Exit NIEHS.

How Do I Use RSS Feeds?

Each reader has a slightly different way of subscribing to a new feed. It is best, though to follow the instructions for your specific reader. Generally, click on the feed icon RSS Feed Icon when presented on an NIEHS web page. An XML web page will be displayed. Copy the URL of this page into the news reader.
