Hi I’m Steve Crider with FEMA, this is a Red River Valley disaster update.

Area residents living in a county that has been designated for federal individual assistance can register with FEMA now.

Even if you have already filled out a damage report form with the state, county emergency managers or a voluntary agency, you still need to register with FEMA.

That’s the only way to receive federal disaster assistance.

Call 1-800-621-FEMA. That’s 1-800-621-3362.

You can also register online at www.disasterassistance.gov

Speech or hearing impaired can use TTY 800-462-7585.

Residents in designated Red River Valley counties may be eligible for a wide range of Individual Assistance programs.

This could include temporary housing assistance, replacement grants for serious disaster-related needs and expenses not covered by insurance or other assistance programs.

FEMA disaster assistance grants cover basic needs only and will not compensate victims for their entire loss.

If you have insurance, the government may help pay for basic needs not covered by insurance.
