Orange Recovery Center To Close; Hazard Mitigation Site Is Open

AUSTIN, Texas -- The last FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Center in Orange County will close Feb. 27, a reflection of Texas' continuing recovery from Hurricane Ike.
Four recovery centers served Orange County following the disaster. The centers had more than 7,000 visits from homeowners, renters and business owners.
Meanwhile, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is staffing a site in Orange where homeowners can get information from hazard mitigation specialists on how to better protect their homes from disasters. The site is located in a home improvement store to make it easy for homeowners to get information.
"The Orange County disaster recovery centers played a critical role in providing face-to-face assistance to help thousands of area resident's move forward in their recovery from the disaster," said Federal Coordinating Officer Brad Harris. "FEMA remains here in Texas and is devoting itself to helping Texans recover from Hurricane Ike through many diverse efforts, including the hazard mitigation assistance site."
The disaster recovery center closing is at Northway Shopping Center at 3727 N. 16th St., Suite 100. The center will be open through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
FEMA hazard mitigation specialists are on hand at McCoy's Building Supply at 4514 Lutcher Dr. through March 12. The FEMA specialists are available at the site Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., until further notice.
The mitigation post is closed Wednesdays and Sundays. The full schedule for hazard mitigation sites in Texas is located at www.fema.gov/hazard/hurricane/2008/ike/mitigation_help.
