Houston Recovery Centers Close, Hazard Mitigation Sites Open

AUSTIN, Texas -- Two FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Centers in Harris County will close Feb. 25, leaving two recovery centers open in the county, a reflection of Texas' continuing recovery from Hurricane Ike.
As many as 24 disaster recovery centers have served Harris County. The closings of the centers are accompanied by the opening of two locations in Harris County to provide information to homeowners on how to better protect their homes from disasters. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has located the sites, staffed by hazard mitigation specialists, in home improvement stores to make it easy for homeowners to get help.
"The Harris County disaster recovery centers have played a critical role in providing face-to-face assistance to help thousands of area residents move forward in their recovery from the disaster," said Federal Coordinating Officer Brad Harris. "FEMA remains here in Texas and is devoting itself to helping Texans recover from Hurricane Ike through many diverse efforts, including the hazard mitigation assistance sites."
The disaster recovery centers closing are located in Houston at Greenspoint Mall at 12300 North Freeway and Universal Shopping Center at 11360 Bellaire Blvd., Suite 900. The centers will be open Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
