Police Officer
Job DescriptionThe NIH Police Officer performs the full range of duties involving the investigation and apprehension of suspected offenders. Their major duties include maintaining law and order within the area of assignment by patrolling in a vehicle or on foot, investigating suspicious situations, and taking appropriate action. Additionally, Police Officers may be required to take law enforcement action on and off of the property of the NIH. This may involve investigating vehicles, persons, and packages entering the organization for weapons of mass destruction or contraband. The NIH Police Officer responds to: bomb threats; searches, locates, and differentiate between harmless and suspicious biohazards and chemicals; and when necessary, notifies the bomb disposal unit and evacuates employees. They enforce laws within area of assignment by patrolling and investigating suspicious situations and arrest suspected violators involved in felony or misdemeanor statute violations.
