Reducing Flood Losses through the International Code Series (2006 I-Codes with 2007 Supplement)
The 3rd edition of this guide is intended to help community officials decide how to integrate the 2006 edition (and 2007 Supplement) of the International Codes (I-Codes) into their current floodplain development and regulatory processes in order to meet the requirements to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Careful attention is required to ensure that all requirements of the NFIP are addressed by communities through both building codes and other ordinances or regulations. Adoption of one or more of the I-Codes, by themselves, does not necessarily meet those requirements.
This guide is not intended as an endorsement of any specific approach for achieving effective management of flood hazards, nor does it explain the NFIP requirements and how to administer them. The 2nd edition of this guide refers to the 2003 editions of the I-Codes. This publication is available in hardcopy for a modest fee (www.iccsafe.org).
