National Preparedness Directorate Revises Emergency Medical Services Resource Typing Definitions and Credentialing Job Titles As part of our Nation’s efforts to strengthen catastrophic response capabilities in line with the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Incident Management Systems Integration Division of the National Preparedness Directorate’s National Integration Center released updated resource typing definitions and NIMS credentialing job titles for Emergency Medical Services resources and personnel. The Emergency Medical Services working group is comprised of subject matter experts who identified resources, to include personnel and training, anticipated to be most commonly requested during an interstate mutual aid response. The resource typing definitions identify the components and metrics that clarify a resource’s minimum capability and/or type classifications. The NIMS credentialing job titles document provides descriptions of the job title and required and recommended criteria for each position. The resource typing definitions are a part of the Tier 1 NIMS Resource Typing as referenced in NIMS Guide (NG) 0001: National Resource Typing Criteria online at: www.fema.gov/pdf/emergency/nims/ng_0001.pdf. The updated Emergency Medical Services Resource Type definitions document is available online at: www.fema.gov/emergency/nims/ResourceMngmnt.shtm. For credentialing guidelines, reference NG 0002: National Credentialing Definition and Criteria located online at www.fema.gov/pdf/emergency/nims/ng_0002.pdf.
