BISMARCK, North Dakota -- Mitigation experts from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are offering home improvement advice and general disaster recovery information every day this week at a Lowes Home Improvement Center in Bismarck.

The FEMA mitigation outreach team will set up exhibits, hand out printed materials and talk one-on-one with people at the Lowes store, 1401 W. Century Ave., 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, May 4, through Saturday, May 10, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 11.

Subjects the mitigation experts are prepared to discuss include:

The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services provides 24/7 emergency communications and resource coordination with more than 50 lead and support agencies, private enterprise, and voluntary organizations to assist local jurisdictions in disaster and emergency response activities. It administers federal disaster recovery programs and the Homeland Security Grant Program.

FEMA leads and supports the nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation, to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the nation from all hazards including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters.
