Michael F. Moriarty is Acting Regional Administrator for the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Region II.

Mr. Moriarty joined FEMA in 2008 as the Federal Preparedness Coordinator. In this capacity he oversaw all federal preparedness efforts in  New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Mr. Moriarty's work enhanced regional preparedness through new planning, assessment, training, exercise and continuity of operations efforts region wide. His work with state and local partners, as well as the private sector and non-governmental organizations has become the template for the Region's preparedness initiatives.  Mr. Moriarty also had oversight over the regional grant process that supports these local preparedness efforts.

A captain in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, Moriarty was recalled to active duty following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 to lead a port security initiative for the Port of New York & New Jersey. He served as Executive Officer and Deputy Commander for Coast Guard Sector New York. He was also part of the Hewlett Packard management team, which transformed New York City's emergency communications post 9/11, enhancing redundancy, resiliency and interoperability for the city's first responders.  

For the eight years prior to 9/11, Moriarty served as Director of Police for Jersey City, NJ., leading a force of 900 police officers and 300 civilians through a transition to a more problem-oriented model of policing. Moriarty also served as Assistant Counsel for Public Safety under NJ Governor Thomas H. Kean and as Director of Public Safety for North Brunswick Township, NJ.
