Michael Buckley

Acting Assistant Administrator Mitigation Directorate

Michael Buckley is currently serving as the Acting Assistant Administrator for FEMA's Mitigation Directorate and oversees several programs, including the National Flood Insurance Program, five Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs, the National Flood Mapping Program, the National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program, the Dam Safety Program, and other administration initiatives.  He has over 30-years of professional experience in the field of hazard mitigation and emergency management and is a registered professional engineer. 

In 1980, Mr. Buckley joined FEMA as an engineer in the flood hazard mapping program.  During his career at FEMA, he has served in various capacities related to mitigation and emergency management, including several international assignments, representing FEMA on National Academy of Sciences studies, and leading the effort to modernize the Nation's flood hazard maps. 

Mr. Buckley was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2000 and is the recipient of the 2008 Meritorious Presidential Rank Award.
