BERM 10
Tenth International Symposium on Biological and Environmental Reference Materials
April 30 to May 4, 2006
Charleston, South Carolina, USA
Scope:
The Tenth International Symposium on Biological and Environmental Reference Materials,
BERM 10, will be held in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, from April 30 to May 4, 2006. As a continuation of the
symposium series, held alternately in the European Union and the United States of America since 1983, BERM 10 is
intended to be a forum to address issues related to the development of biological and environmental reference materials
and their role in the quality assurance of analytical measurements. This forum allows both providers and users of
certified reference materials (CRMs) to discuss issues such as the following:
- Recent developments in CRM production
- Current trends and future needs for CRMs
- Selection and proper use of CRMs
- Harmonization and comparability of analytical measurements
- Improvements in availability of CRMs
- Education and training
The scientific program for BERM 10 will focus on the role of CRMs in the analytical measurement
process, with emphasis on CRMs related to public health, such as clinical laboratory medicine; food safety and nutrition
labeling; and environmental monitoring.
BERM 10 is hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology,
in cooperation with NOAA Coastal Services Center, High Purity Standards,
the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM), Centers
for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of
Dietary Supplements and USDA.
