FEMA’s Historic Preservation Group To Host Free Workshop

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) Historic Preservation group will host a workshop Feb. 13, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Preservation Resource Center, 923 Tchoupitoulas Street, in New Orleans' Warehouse District.

The workshop will explore tips and techniques for the preservation of historic properties, ideas on how to mitigate structures to prepare for future disasters and FEMA's recent decision to consider hazard mitigation grant waivers for work already in progress.

Experts presenting at the workshop include individuals from FEMA Historic Preservation, FEMA Hazard Mitigation, the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Louisiana State Historic Preservation Office, the Preservation Resource Center and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Topics include "Things to Consider When Rebuilding a Historic Structure," "Preservation Do's and Don'ts" and "Historic Preservation Resources and Technical Experts in the Community."

The workshop is free, and the public is invited to attend.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
