The Disaster Recovery Center in Chalmette Transitions to a SBA Outreach Center

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Effective Monday, July 24, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at 8101 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette will transition to a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Outreach Center.

The Outreach Center will be open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The SBA will provide disaster assistance information and conduct loan closings for disaster victims.

Since it opened October 15, 2005 FEMA recovery specialists, customer service representatives from the SBA and representatives of other federal and state agencies have assisted more than 88,000 area residents with the disaster recovery process. Staff members answered questions, helped applicants complete various forms and provided informational brochures and other disaster related materials.  

Residents may continue to access recovery information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362. Hearing- or speech-impaired individuals may call TTY 1-800-462-7585.

Individuals with SBA questions may either visit the Outreach Center or call the SBA Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955. Hearing- or speech- impaired individuals may call TTY 1-800-877-8339.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.  FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
