NIH Library Classes: January and February 2008

Learn new reference management and search techniques at classes sponsored by the NIH Library.

All classes are held in the Training Room on the lower level of the NIH Library (Building 10). Registration is required; to register, click on the links below.

EndNote Basic (X)
January 17: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
January 24: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
February 6: 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Topics: Import and organize references, insert references in manuscripts, and create bibliographies.

Ovid Update
February 6: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Topics: Use the new OvidSP interface to conduct basic searches with medical terms or everyday language, annotate search results, refine searches with the Search Aid, and sort results. Ovid® is the search system for PsycINFO®, AGRICOLA, and Health and Psychosocial Instruments and is an alternative interface for MEDLINE®.

PubMed
January 17: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
February 6: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Topics: Search the biomedical literature in MEDLINE by topic, author, and journal; apply language, age, and publication type limits; and use the MeSH® (Medical Subject Headings®) Database to identify search terms.

Reference Manager
January 17: 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
Topics: Similar to the EndNote sessions, but for Reference Manager users. Import and organize references, insert references in manuscripts, and create bibliographies.

Scopus
January 24: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Topics: Search by topic, store search requests, and create email alerts. Scopus™ is an interdisciplinary database that indexes thousands of journals in the social sciences, psychology, business, management, the physical sciences, engineering, the earth and environmental sciences, and the life and health sciences.

Web of Science
January 24: 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Topics: Conduct cited reference searches and search by subject, author, and journal title in Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index®.
