NIDDK Supplement Program Using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Funds

NIDDK will utilize some of the funds made available under the ARRA to supplement existing NIDDK grants during FY2009 and FY2010. This NIDDK supplement program consists of three different types of supplements:

1) Administrative Supplements for research that falls within the scope of an NIDDK-funded project. For more information and application instructions see guidance on NIDDK ARRA Administrative Supplements.

2) Administrative Supplements to Foster Summer Research Experience. The program allows investigators and institutions with active NIH funding to request administrative supplements to increase the pace of approved and funded projects through the employment of students and science educators for the summer months. For more information and application instructions see guidance on NIDDK ARRA Administrative Supplements to Foster Summer Research Experiences for Students and Science Educators.

3) Competitive Revisions (also called Competitive Supplements) for research that falls outside the scope of an NIDDK-funded project. Applications for these supplements will need to undergo NIH peer review. Competitive revisions may be used for most activity codes, but not for fellowships (F), conference grants (R13s), individual K awards, and training grants (T). For more information and application instructions see the NIH Notice NOT-OD-09-058. NIDDK does not have additional requirements for competitive revision applications beyond the instructions in the NIH Notice nor has NIDDK identified research areas targeted for consideration for competitive revision applications. Grantees considering developing such an application are strongly encouraged to discuss this with the NIDDK Program Director currently administering the grant they are considering for revision.

Please note that guidance on Supplements using ARRA funds continues to evolve. NIDDK strongly encourages those developing an application to check this site frequently for any updates.
