Tell Us YOUR Best Practice Story or Case Study
Best Practices e-mail updates.
There are three important elements to help reduce the impact of disasters on our nation's citizens and communities:
- Hazard identification and assessment of risks and vulnerabilities;
- Taking action to mitigate (reduce or prevent disaster effects); and
- Telling the Best Practice story of how to mitigate.
By sharing your story, you help spread the word of how important, effective, and life saving mitigation can be. Your story may encourage others to support similar mitigation efforts!
If you have a Best Practice story to tell, please download and print the Submission Worksheet from the FEMA Library and use it to help assemble the information necessary to tell your story. The Best Practice Submission Worksheet has been designed to help you capture the key elements needed to tell your Mitigation Best Practice story. Our goal is to find examples that highlight a variety of hazards, mitigation actions, funding sources, and Best Practice subjects. Completing the worksheet takes between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours on average. We encourage you to enhance your story by including up to two related web site links and as many as six files (e.g., photographs, documents, PDFs, maps). The worksheet provides instructions for submitting attachments; please follow these instructions closely.
Once you have completed the worksheet and assembled any attachments, you have two options for submitting your Best Practice story for review:
- Enter it directly into the Mitigation Best Practices Portfolio using the Online Submission Form (recommended); or
- Send it to MITsuccess@dhs.gov by email.
You may find that some necessary information is not available when you submit your Best Practice. Not a problem -- any information or attachments that are new, updated, or corrected may be submitted whenever they become available. Simply send them to MITsuccess@dhs.gov, and your Best Practice will be updated accordingly (please be sure to include the Best Practice Activity/Project Title in your email).
Because we would like to be able to contact you if we have any questions concerning the submitted information, we give you the option of providing your phone number and/or email address as part of your submission. If provided, your contact information will only be visible to FEMA staff. FEMA-approved stories will be available online through a searchable portfolio. FEMA may also choose to highlight your story in the media or during U.S. Congressional briefings as a model Best Practice.
