FEMA Holds CEDAP Training For First Responders

Background

The DHS-Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP) is a competitive direct assistance program for state and local law enforcement and other emergency response organizations. The program's mission is to assist smaller agencies in the selection, acquisition, fielding and maintenance of new technologies. FEMA provides the technologies to enhance communities' capabilities to manage and respond to various types of emergency situations.

Since the program's inception in Fiscal Year (FY) 2005, CEDAP has provided over $104 million in equipment and training to smaller agencies, those serving jurisdictions with 50,000 or fewer residents. In FY 2008, demand for equipment was very high with over 3,500 applications resulting with 1,045 recipient agencies.
