Free Counseling Available For Flood Victims Extended To Additional Wisconsin Counties

LA CROSSE, Wis. Counseling support is now available in Columbia, Dane, Grant, Green, Iowa, Jefferson and Rock counties affected by the August 18-31 storms and flooding it was announced today by Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services is coordinating the Crisis Counseling Immediate Services Program, called Project Recovery. FEMA provided a $200,000 grant initially to help residents cope with flood-related emotional stress in Crawford, Kenosha, La Crosse, Racine, Richland, Sauk and Vernon counties.
Project Recovery provides up to two months of supportive counseling, community outreach, consultation and education. Counselors assist residents affected by the disaster understand their current situation and reactions, provide emotional support and link them with resources and agencies. In addition, counselors will canvass affected areas, place ads in newspapers and put up flyers to notify residents about the available counseling.
Residents affected by the floods from one of the 14 counties listed above are encouraged to call Project Recovery at 1-866-422-3742 to make arrangements to have a counselor call your or visit you at your home.
FEMA coordinates the federal governments role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
