NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Louisiana Office of Facility Planning and Control (FP&C) are requesting public participation and input at their upcoming meeting regarding the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process and site-specific design alternatives for the Louisiana State University Academic Medical Center (LSU AMC).

The public and all interested parties are invited to attend and participate in the upcoming meeting, which will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 3700 Canal Street in New Orleans.

FP&C plans to utilize FEMA funding to construct the LSU AMC in New Orleans. Both agencies, in compliance with NEPA and the National Historic Preservation Act, will present LSU AMC's design alternatives for the selected Tulane/Gravier site. Three design alternatives will be presented.

The meeting will begin with an open house from 6:30 p.m. - 7 p.m, where meeting attendees will have the opportunity to view the proposed design alternatives and talk directly to federal and state representatives. Following, at 7 p.m., FP&C and its design team will give a presentation, after which the audience will have an opportunity to provide written or oral comments.

After the meeting, public comments will continue to be accepted until May 13, 2009 at 4 p.m. Comments can be provided at the project Web site (www.LSUAMC.com) or by mailing comments to Cynthia Illick, FEMA EHP, 1250 Poydras Street, 18th Floor Box 43, New Orleans, LA 70113.

Overall, the meeting will provide the public and other interested parties the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process related to the design, construction, and operation of the proposed LSU AMC at the Tulane/Gravier site in New Orleans. The meeting will also ensure that FEMA and the State consider comments regarding the environmental impact of the medical center's design and construction in the selected area.

LSU AMC project information, including the conceptual design schemes and layouts for the proposed medical center, will soon be available at http://www.LSUAMC.com.
