NEW ORLEANS, La. -- STATEMENT FROM GIL JAMIESON, DEPUTY DIRECTOR FOR GULF COAST RECOVERY, ON MAYOR C. RAY NAGIN’S DECISION TO RESCIND THE EXECUTIVE ORDER SUSPENDING DEVELOPMENT OF TEMPORARY GROUP HOUSING SITES IN ORLEANS PARISH.

“I am pleased with the Mayor's willingness to move forward today and work with the City Council on this critical issue of temporary housing. The sites approved today by Mayor Nagin will allow us to house those still in need in Orleans Parish. The actions today will allow us to reinvigorate our overall mission to provide housing to those families who need it.

These approvals enable us to continue our efforts to secure these much needed temporary sites. With the approval by the Mayor and the City Council, our contractors will move as quickly as possible towards completion.”

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003
