BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Gonzales, located at 13192 Airline Hwy. , will close on Saturday March 11, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness announced today.

“This DRC has served more than 11,000 applicants since it opened on Sept. 27, 2005.” said Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells. “As relief and recovery efforts continue in Louisiana , closing this DRC will enable us to focus our resources to assist the maximum number of people.”

Applicants may also access information by calling the Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Hearing or speech impaired individuals may register by calling 1-800-462-7585. Applicants may also visit the DRC in East Baton Rouge Parish, 101 France Street , in Baton Rouge , Louisiana , for information regarding their applications. Hours of operation at this location is Mon. thru Sat. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m

Representatives of state, federal, as well as customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, are on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at Disaster Recovery Centers. These centers are for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery. Written materials about various state and federal programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

These DRCs are open from Mon. thru Sat. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice.

FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.  FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
