Public Assistance Weekly Updates

New Reports Format

FEMA's Gulf Coast Recovery Office (GCRO) established this website to provide information on multi-state recovery efforts for hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. As recovery continues along the Gulf Coast, we find it necessary to revise our reporting system to reflect the current phase of recovery.  (Read More)

When Alabama Transitional Office (AL TRO) reached a state of near completion and no longer needed a dedicated recovery organization, FEMA determined that a full transition of the remaining recovery mission back to Region IV in November 2008, was the most prudent course of action from a mission and cost perspective. The Texas Transitional Recovery Office (TX TRO) has reached a similar state of completion and effective February 15, 2009 will transition back to Region VI. Since Alabama and Texas no longer report to GCRO, updates for them will no longer be posted on the site.

GCRO streamlined Public Assistance (PA) and Individual Assistance (IA) reports to reflect a shift in the recovery efforts along the Gulf Coast. Up to now, PA reports detailed requests for funding and the disbursement of these funds, but as we move into the reconstruction and rebuilding phase, it is necessary to shift the focus to reflect this change.  IA sifted through its reports and retained housing data most often requested while eliminating details no longer needed as the number of households continues to decline.

Our site demonstrates the level of FEMA's commitment to the region, documents progress and provides a transparent view of the process for anyone who is interested. We will continue to update the Web site so Gulf Coast families, government officials, news media and the general public have the information they need to assist in their recovery.
