WYLBUR, an editing and batch processing system on Titan, will be retiring.

When

December 31, 2009

Why

CIT is concerned that users are running WYLBUR command procedures that were designed by people who are no longer with their organizations, and are not available to fix problems. We are also finding it increasingly difficult to find IT specializes who can support WYLBUR.

Alternatives

Many of WYLBUR's text editing functions can now be performed with desktop text editing programs. FTP enables customers to transfer files between Titan and the desktop. We also have many off-the-shelf products on Titan that provide customers the same functionality as WYLBUR command procedures. To see the replacements for WYLBUR functions, open the replacements table.

Help for the Transition

We will do everything we can to help you with the transition, including working with you to convert your command procedures to REXX EXECs and helping you use FTP software.

  • WYLBUR's edit format for data sets cannot be used outside of WYLBUR. Refer to this Titan News article to learn how to convert your data sets to a format that can be used outside of WYLBUR.
  • For customers who use WYLBUR interactively, we are offering classes in ISPF.
  • Our WYLBUR wiki will keep you up to date on productivity tools that will help you with the transition. Login to the wiki with your Titan userid and password.
  • Use the WYLBUR-L listserv list to ask a question or send a comment concerning the WYLBUR retirement. Refer to the WYLBUR wiki for information on joining and using the listserv list. Once you have joined the list, email your questions/comments to WYLRETIRE-L@LIST.NIH.GOV.
