Study Suggests Coenzyme Q10 Slows Functional Decline in Parkinson's Disease
Results of the first placebo-controlled, multicenter clinical trial of the compound coenzyme Q10 suggest that it can slow disease progression in patients with early-stage Parkinson's disease (PD). While the results must be confirmed in a larger study, they provide hope that this compound may ultimately provide a new way of treating PD. - 08/23/02

Sites Chosen for Public-Private Osteoarthritis Initiative
The Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) will bring together new resources to help find biological and structural markers (biomarkers) for development and progression of this joint disease. FDA Warns Public About Chinese Diet Pills Containing Fenfluramine
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is alerting the public about Chinese weight-loss products, Chasu (Jianfei) Diet Capsules and Chasu Gempi, because they pose a potential public health risk. The agency is alerting the public to this health risk because several people in Japan have become ill, and some have died, after consuming these diet products. - 08/07/02
NIH Launches Large Clinical Trial on EDTA Chelation Therapy for Coronary Artery Disease
NCCAM and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), components of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), have launched the first large-scale clinical trial to determine the safety and efficacy of EDTA chelation therapy in individuals with coronary artery disease, the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. - 07/25/02
