Bethesda Site Information

The classes will be held at the
National Library of Medicine
8600 Rockville Pike
Building 38A, 4th Floor Training Room (4S-412)
Bethesda, MD 20894

Rockville Pike is the extension of Wisconsin Avenue.

Visitors will be screened and visitor passes will be issued at the perimeter of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Campus. This means you will receive a badge upon entering the NIH Campus and then proceed to NLM, Bldg. 38A. The Lister Hill Building (Building 38A) is the 10-story office building behind the actual Library building (Building 38).

Please allow extra time for clearing security and obtaining your daily visitor badge.

Visitor Access

You MUST receive a badge at the NIH Gateway Center Metro stop (Red Line) before proceeding to the National Library of Medicine. See map.

Visitors must show one (1) form of identification (a government-issued photo ID— driver's license, passport, green card, et cetera) and state the purpose of their visit. Please note that if the national threat advisory level is High (orange), two (2) forms of identification would be needed.

We strongly encourage all commuting class participants to take the metro. NLM is two blocks south of the Medical Center stop on the Metro Red Line.

Note: The NIH campus is tobacco-free (tobaccofree.nih.gov).

Vehicle Access

Visitors driving to campus enter at "NIH Gateway Drive" just south of the South Drive/Rockville Pike intersection. Visitors may park in the new "visitor-only" parking garage (MLP-11). No vehicle inspection is required to park in this garage. The cost is $2/hour for the first three hours; $12 maximum for the entire day (cash only!). Please see the NIH site for a map and further details.
