Fellowship in Retinal Cell Biology

A postdoctoral position is available at the Office of the Scientific Director, National Eye Institute (NEI), Bethesda, MD to study the interaction of retinal microglia with different retinal cell types underlying retinal diseases. Some of our current research interests include: understanding extracellular and intracellular influences on retinal microglial behavior and morphology, understanding how retinal microglia contribute to tissue damage and/or repair in models of retinal disease, and translational approaches involving retinal microglia as a cellular target for therapy in retinal diseases. We are interested in studying the morphology, behavior, and physiology of microglia using in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro systems, in combination with live imaging microscopy techniques. A background in retinal cell biology and microscopy is desirable.

The position provides generous scientific resources and stipend support. Stipends start at $41,200 and are commensurate with research experience. Applicants must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. and less than 5 years' postdoctoral experience. U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, and non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.

To apply, send a curriculum vitae, bibliography, cover letter with a brief description of research experience and interests, and the names of 3 references (with phone numbers) via e-mail or post to:
