EPAA: European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing
The EPAA is a joint initiative of the European Commission, European trade associations from
seven industry sectors, and individual companies. Its purpose is to promote the development
and implementation of modern alternative approaches and
new methods that will replace, reduce, and refine the use of animals in the field of safety testing.
NC3Rs (National Centre for Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research)
The NC3Rs funds high-quality 3Rs research, develops a range of 3Rs information resources and guidelines,
and organizes workshops and symposia to disseminate and advance the 3Rs. The Centre was established in the
United Kingdom in May 2004 and is licensed under the
Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, which regulates scientific procedures which may cause pain,
suffering, distress or lasting harm to "protected animals."
AltTox.org: Non-animal Methods for Toxicity Testing
AltTox.org is a website dedicated to advancing non-animal methods of toxicity testing through online discussion and information exchange.
The site is being developed and supported through a collaboration of the Procter & Gamble Company
and The Humane Society of the United States.

Database Service on Alternative Methods to Animal Experimentation
(DB-ALM)
DB-ALM was established in 1996 to establish, maintain and manage a database on alternative
procedures to animal experiments. It provides ready-to-use information presented as evaluated data-sheets in the form of
summary records and detailed information on various aspects of animal alternatives with focus
on toxicology assessments.
TSAR: Tracking System for Alternative Test Methods Review, Validation and
Approval in the Context of EU Regulations on Chemicals
TSAR is a tool to provide a transparent view on the status of alternative
methods as they progress from purely scientific protocols submitted for
pre-validation to being actively used in a regulatory context. TSAR is administered
by the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) Institute for
Health and Consumer Protection.
Trans-NIH Xenopus Initiative Web Site
An excellent resource on
Xenopus research and initiatives, developed to help
keep the public aware of NIH's progress and plans regarding support of
the genomic and genetic needs for Xenopus research. The site also
provides links to community resources and to information about courses,
meetings and publications.
Xenopus tropicalis resource
A group that is developing X. tropicalis as a model organism,
led by Dr. Robert Grainger at UVA.

Select Committee on Animals in Scientific Procedures Report, [July 24, 2002 - 82 pages]
On July 24, 2002, a select committee of the British Parliament's House of Lords released its
report on the use of animals in scientific procedures. The report was the result of a year of
investigation, hearings, and consultations by the committee with a wide range of representatives
from both the biomedical research and animal rights activist communities.
