Collaborative Conversations: New Research and Clinical Perspectives on FASDs - May 19th, Anchorage, AK
Workshops will be presented by national FASD experts Dr. Heather Carmichael Olson, Dr. Tracy Jirikowic, Dr. Susan Astley, and Dr. Sterling Clarren. In addition, Dr. Christiane Brems of UAA Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services will present an overview of the Arctic FASD RTC and inform participants about how to access FASD training and educational resources.

Traditional Belief and Healing Systems in a Changing World: an Interdisciplinary Approach - May 27th to 31st, Anchorage, AK
Sessions are planned on traditional beliefs as reflected in rock art and other archaeological data, on linguistic and ethnographic research on shamanism, on traditional shamanistic practices and on contemporary healing.

2030 North: A National Planning Conference - June 1st to 4th, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Canada’s current northern presence, policies and programs were, for the most part, shaped years ago to meet the needs of a very different social, political and physical environment. Maintaining our claims to sovereignty and leadership will require a new vision for a new north - a comprehensive public policy agenda that recognizes and reflects the pivotal role of the Arctic, today and in 2030. Working within a highly interactive format focused on discussion and analysis of five original, commissioned papers, participants will generate the foundations of a comprehensive northern strategy and action plan to guide Canada forward to 2030, and beyond.

NCP / AMAP Symposium on Human Health and Arctic Environmental Contaminants- June 10th to 12th 2009, Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada
The purpose of the symposium is to present, communicate and discuss the results of assessments of the human health effects of environmental contaminants conducted under the Canadian Northern Contaminants Program and the international Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme during the past 6 years and to engage Health professionals, Indigenous people, Scientists, Policy-makers, Young scientists as well as address Local Indigenous Perspectives on Contaminants and Health, Human Exposure to Environmental Contaminants, Arctic Health Effects Studies, Risk Benefit Assessment.

National Association for Rural Mental Health: 35th Annual Conference - June 17th to 20th, Albuquerque, NM
This annual meeting, Connecting Neighbors: Finding Strength in Community, is unique in the way in which it brings together a broad range of participants—consumers, clinicians, family members, administrators, program/service providers, researchers, and policy makers-- who all share a common zeal to learn about, improve and promote behavioral health care in rural and frontier settings.

IPY The 14th International Congress on Circumpolar Health: Securing The IPY Legacy: From Research to Action - July 11th to 16th, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada
The congress addresses the long-standing need for the exchange of health-related knowledge amongst scientists, health care professionals , policy analysts, government agencies, and community leaders, as well as the results of recent research efforts for the benefit of all humankind. The special focus of this congress is on the IPY legacy for health research and action in the circumpolar region.

Survival In a Changing World: 2009 Journal of Experimental Biology Symposium - August 2nd to 6th, Awaji Island, Japan
The symposium presentations will be arranged into five scientific sessions, each chaired by one of the Symposium organizers: Climate change and its influence on terrestrial animals; Climate change and its influence on aquatic animals; Emerging zoonosis and human diseases; Animal resilience and adaptation in coping with changes; Population and ecosystem responses to land use change and contaminants.

IPY 2009 Arctic Science Conference - September 14th to 16th, Juneau, Alaska
The International Polar Year (IPY) offered an opportunity to investigate the Arctic System and to establish international collaborations between researchers, educators and policy makers. In order to respond and adapt to what has been learned, this conference provides an opportunity to explore the outcomes of international collaborative science, engineering, and education research resulting from IPY. This is a good starting point for discussion on the impact of a changing environment on health.
